Summary | 0015474: Pronounciation of "Coup de Grace"
Description | Issue type: Other Reported from: [not specified] by Soleil User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0 Hi! This is just to signal that on https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat/, the following is written : "As a full-round action, you can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace (pronounced “coo day grahs”) to a helpless opponent.". The pronounciation isn't correct, and as widespread as it is, it's wrong and kind of cringey to anyone speaking French lol The correct way would be something like "coo duh grahs" (and even then, it seems like it's a long "uh" sound but it's actually a really short "uh"). As many people already make this mistake and believe it to be pronounced this way, if you simply change what's inside the parentheses, I'm expecting you to get other emails trying to revert it (and they would be wrong). As such, I believe the best would be to change it to : "As a full-round action, you can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace (pronounced "coo duh grahs", and not “coo day grahs”, contrary to popular belief) to a helpless opponent.", or something along those lines (I'm conscious that this puts too much emphasis on the pronouciation when it's not the most important part of this description). Cheers!
